There are many questions and doubt arise when we talk about working offshore. (eg ships, platforms of petroleum etc..). There are even books about this subject, but it is really difficult to find answer this question: "How to work offshore?"
Before answering this question, we need to understand what is a platform of petroleum? Platforms are facilities complex enough and some of them large platforms including those, which produce and store oil and gas at high pressure, drilling wells and work on construction and maintenance. It operate far from shore and from immediate aid, requiring some degree of autonomy and sets of services such as nourishment, accommodation of crew (sometimes more than 200 people embark at same time), power supply, compressor and pumps, water, transport to shore (boats and helicopter) means of load and unload, telecommunication, medical services and lifesaving boat apart from other means of survives. These all services need a high-level coordination (OIT, 1993).
The period of working days embarked at sea and days of rest on land varies. In some countries has an alternation of 14/14 (United Kingdom), 7/7 (United States) or even one progress of 14/14 in first cycle, 14/21 in second cycle and 14/28 in third cycle(Norway). In terms of working hours during embark are commonly 12 hours and 12 hours of rest. However, period of working hour can extend to 14 hours including extra hours. In either case, apart from shift, some workers remain on standby during the entire time that they are on the platform.
Work in process units such as platforms of petroleum can be comprise of four aspects that are interrelated and characterize; those aspects are simultaneously continuous, complex, collective and dangerous.
Dangerous because it is related to the processing of hydrocarbons that evaporate, explode or catch fire. Use of toxic chemicals for human, for the environment, the operation of machinery and for equipment can trigger powerful accidents with the potential to cause multiple deaths and injury.
Thus, to work offshore, Qualification, Habilitation (if applicable) and Occupational training is necessary. But how? Need to distinguish Qualification, Habilitation and Occupational training to get ready for work embarked? Yes! Let's get straight to the point:
Some examples of training:
